“No Lifeguard”
This summer’s tragic unsupervised drownings, including siblings Ameiya and Ricardo Junior Parris (13 and 11) in Spain, footballer Jeferson Merli (27) in Portugal, actor Malcolm‑Jamal Warner (54) in Costa Rica, and holidaymakers King Edonmi (29) and Mo Liasu (27) in Portugal, highlight the urgent need for better public awareness. Even experienced swimmers are at risk when lifeguards are not present.
“NO Lifeguard” is a public service announcement delivered through a culturally driven song and storytelling to address the rising number of drowning incidents in 2025, particularly in areas without lifeguards. The campaign aims to reach five million people by Spring 2026.
The “No Lifeguard” initiative could significantly reduce drownings through increased awareness and behavioral change. The campaign’s success would depend on the extent of its reach and the effectiveness of its message in altering long-standing behaviors, but its potential to save lives is substantial.
Why It Matters: The goal is to promote safer water environments by encouraging swimming in lifeguarded areas as the norm. By spring 2026, if we can raise awareness about the dangers of unguarded waters especially among occasional swimmers and holidaymakers, we can ensure a safer future for all.
‼️Call-to-action‼️
Sharing this message as wide as possible within your personal and professional networks as that could potentially save lives.
